COMINSUD Hosts Youth and Women Peace Workshop

In a bid to foster sustainable development and promote peace in the North-West Region, the Community Initiative for Sustainable Development (COMINSUD) and NWRA alongside other partners have wrapped up a two-day youth and women peace, social enterprise exchange workshop. The event took place on April 24th and 25th, 2024, at the conference hall of the North-West Regional Assembly.

The workshop, themed “Stimulating and Enhancing the Role of Women and Youths in Peace Promotion and Socio-Economic Development,” aimed to empower women and youth to actively participate in decision-making processes and contribute to peace-building efforts in the region.

A full house

One of the key highlights of the workshop was the emphasis on social entrepreneurship as a means of promoting sustainable development and peace. Participants learned about innovative approaches to entrepreneurship and were encouraged to explore opportunities for creating businesses that address social and environmental challenges in the region.

The workshop also provided a platform for networking and collaboration among participants, with many expressing their enthusiasm to continue working together beyond the event to implement concrete initiatives that promote peace and development.

The event served as a catalyst for empowering women and youth in the North-West Region to actively contribute to peace-building and socio-economic development, laying the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous future.

It should be recalled that the English-speaking Regions of Cameroon have been experiencing a political crisis since 2017. The peaceful clamouring of a separate Anglophone state subsequently turned into an armed conflict. A situation that has disrupted the socio-economic activities of the Regions.

It is within this context that COMINSUD is working to empower communities through multi-sectoral interventions involving different partners and individuals. Presently, the organization is implementing a Social Aid and Support Project (SASU) sponsored by Bread for the World Germany.  The project aims at providing psychosocial support and building resilience amongst socially excluded groups; especially young and middle-aged persons in 08 local councils of the North West Region.
