During a 2-day initiation at the COMINSUD Head Office in Ntarinkon-Bamenda the interns were also reminded of the fact that “…too much work without play makes Jack a dull boy.”
By Neba Evelyn and Beryl-Diane Massa (Uba students on internship)
The eight (8) interns from the Universities of Buea (UB) and the University of Bamenda (Uba) are expected to blend academic theories with practical experiences they will gain during their placement as they posit towards the job market. The internship shall run for at least One month spanning August and September 2024.

This was the reason why the Coordinator of COMINSUD, Fon Nsoh who led the orientation, after a sampling of the expectation of the interns came out with cut-across areas of specialization that the students would be drilled on during their internship period. These include administrative procedures, organizational communication, evidence-based writing, gender considerations, research, advocacy skills, supply chain management, problem identification/ project design and Sexual Gender-Based-Violence. According to the COMINSUD Coordinator, insight in these key areas would help them fit into the job market no matter their specialty.
It should be noted that all the interns are in their final year and come from different Faculties and Departments from the UB and Uba respectively including; the Departments of Women and Gender Studies for those from the University of Buea, and from the University of Bamenda Transport and Logistics, Communication and Development and Public Law.
The more reason why COMINSUD’s Communication Officer, Fosab Annabel encouraged them to be intentional and focused. A position echoed by the project manager, Neba Celestine who emphasized that blending theory with practical experience is of utmost importance in building one’s career.
A work shadowing session for interns enabled them to be abreast with the different departments of COMINSUD including; the World Food Program (WFP) project desk, Health Unit, Counselling Office, and the Social Inclusion and Civil Peace Services.

Founded in 1996, COMINSUD has the vision of enabling a responsive society where the principles and standards of good governance are respected and upheld for sustainable human and environmental development.
