Community Initiative for Sustainable Development (COMINSUD) was on the 30th August installed as the contractor to handle Lot 3 of the “Bamenda resilient and inclusive friendly environment project; environment work catchment protection and building walkways linking nieghbooroods in Sisia Quarter” This 3rd phase of the Sisia project aims to safe guard five water catchment points in the Sisia 1, 2, 3 and 4 nieghbourhoods alongside other tasks.
In the presence of a UN Habitat official (Co-funders of the project) together with FEICOM, a representative of the Bamenda City Mayor encouraged the quarter heads and other quarter personnel present to work together while supporting the contractor in carrying out the task with ease. He also mentioned with emphasis that the project has been sponsored through partnership stands on the participatory funds for Slums re-habilitation. This 3rd Lot of the project he wished should be carried out collaboratively to ensure continuity and quickness.

He went further to explain that the partnership project aims at realizing 3 main goals, the first two of which are already on course. This third lot which is awarded to COMINSUD; was via a mutual agreement since the organization works closely with communities. The contract formalities were finalized with part of their tasks being: tree planting, nursing and catchment protection amongst others. Owing to the favourable climate conditions this raining season he urged COMINSUD to commence works immediately since some activities will be best carried out with the rains.

The dream for the neighborhood that started since 2015, is now drawing close to realizing the development goal of the community. A goal that fits perfectly with the contractors’ mission.
The Staff official of FIECOM apologized for the lateness in the procurement process and transfer of funds. He went further to emphasize that they are still sourcing more funds with which to complete the entire projects earmarked for Sisia.
The UN Habitat official appreciated the community approach initiative stating that the organ prides in such actions as they usually result in greater impact.
COMINSUD Coordinator presented the organization and her experience on the field to the public. Drawing from Rio 1992 Earth summit, he encouraged them to think globally and act locally a premise on which the organization too was birthed. Explaining its role as an empowering organization, he stressed the various areas of works in Promoting good governance, Gender and environmental works. Citing past projects with the C2D, he demonstrated COMINSUD prowess in carrying out the tasks at hand.
COMINSUD is therefore called upon to protect water catchments and with the objective to contribute to the development of a resilient and inclusive friendly environment in Sisia. Carry out concrete climate change activities, improve on community accessibility, protect water catchments and stop encroachment into demarcated areas.
As such, the contractor will participate in planting water friendly and water yielding plants as well as raise awareness on local sustainability methods of water management and arouse public concerns of uncontrolled dumping on floods lines amongst others.
Sisia quarter representative welcomed the contractor and encouraged members of the community to collaborate fully for gradually their quarter will become the Washington of Bamenda as they have always dreamed it to be.

After the signing of the installation service order minutes by all the dignitaries present, followed by site installation, a family photo was captured to immortalize the installation event.
By the end of the project, the contractor hopes to harness portable water and supply to the population, ensure environmental friendly gardens are developed and flood beds are cleaned with major access roads made accessible amongst other due reports to be obtained.
