In the humanitarian sector, safeguarding against sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) is not merely essential; it is imperative, especially in crisis situations such as the ongoing socio-political turmoil in the Northwest and Southwest regions. The United Nations is stern regarding PSEA, emphasizing that any cases of exploitation or abuse must not be taken lightly. This issue can arise from interactions between humanitarian workers and beneficiaries, as well as between colleagues.

The UN’s stance on PSEA is no tolerance and carry severe consequences. Any humanitarian worker found guilty of such misconduct may face consequences like expulsion from the UN system, termination of employment, or even criminal prosecution. It is, therefore, imperative for every worker in the humanitarian field to possess understanding of laws governing PSEA.
Recognizing the critical importance of PSEA, the Community Initiative for Sustainable Development (COMINSUD), a dedicated organization operating in Bamenda, has taken proactive steps to ensure that its staff is well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat sexual exploitation and abuse. COMINSUD is committed to serving humanity and the community while upholding UN standards, reflecting its serious dedication to ethical practices in humanitarian work.
To reinforce this commitment, COMINSUD organized a refresher course on PSEA, held on March 29, 2025 in COMINSUD premises. The training aimed to update all staff, particularly newly recruited members, on the knowledge and practices surrounding PSEA. Facilitated by Protection Officer Mrs. Mboh Giselle, the course provided participants with essential insights and reinforced the organization’s zero-tolerance policy toward exploitation and abuse.

COMINSUD is determined to foster a safe and dignified environment for both its workers and the communities they serve. In a world fraught with challenges and vulnerabilities, the organization stands firm in its belief that protection against sexual exploitation and abuse is fundamental to effective humanitarian action.
