COMINSUD has successfully organised a follow-up workshop to the Peace Education Project launched in September 2024 in the Mezam Division, North West Region Cameroon.
The workshop brought together more than 35 youth leaders from Bamenda I, Bamenda II, and Bali, who shared their achievements in reducing tensions and promoting social cohesion in their communities.

“I couldn’t tolerate Christians, and there used to be a very tense atmosphere between Muslim and Christian youths in some parts of Bali. But after attending the Peace Education Training in September 2024, I learned to embrace tolerance and love our Christian brothers. I went back and sensitised Muslim youths in Bali on the importance of social cohesion, and today the conflict has been reduced to the barest minimum,” shared Aboubakar, a Muslim youth leader.

These youth leaders—who have, over the years, championed peace campaigns in schools, mosques, churches, and socio-cultural groups—renewed their commitment to continue fostering peace in their respective communities.

In her opening remarks, COMINSUD’s Board Chair, Chambi Julie, reminded the youth leaders of the importance of taking concrete peace actions and the dangers of remaining passive. She emphasised that tolerance does not mean condoning indiscipline, but rather respecting the diverse religious, socio-political, and cultural perspectives of community members.

On his part, Barrister Agbor Nkeng Etengeneng, Regional Branch Head of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission for the North West Region, praised COMINSUD’s sustained peace and justice efforts. He described the organisation as a credible partner in the fight for a just and peaceful society and pledged continued collaboration.

The CPS Peace Education Project, funded by Bread for the World, seeks to combat violence and promote peaceful coexistence among young people in the North West Region.
