In response to the growing need for protection in crisis context, particularly in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon, the Community Initiative for Sustainable Development (COMINSUD) has taken a significant step towards enhancing protection in the community. Within the Social Aid and Support (SASU) project, funded by Bread for the World (BROT) Germany, COMINSUD organized a training session for members of Community Protection Committees (CPCs) in Bamenda II & III on August 20, 2025.

Held at the Bamenda Health District office, the training focused on equipping CPC members with vital knowledge on protection issues. Experts were engaged as resource persons to ensure comprehensive coverage key topics which included Gender-Based Violence (GBV), its various forms, and strategies for handling GBV cases within their communities, child protection, including relevant laws and intervention methods, house, Land, and Property (HLP) issues, which have become increasingly pressing in the crisis-affected North West Region. The training emphasized the role and functions of CPCs in addressing these issues, as well as their limitations and the appropriate channels for reporting and referring cases.
The roles of the CPCs include sensitization of the community on the topics GBV, Child protection and House, Lang property, and educated the community on the existing laws around this area, carryout advocacy campaigns and referrals of cases to appropriate services.
The workshop highlighted COMINSUD’s commitment to development and empowering communities which is part of COMINSUD’s broader mission to stimulate positive change and improve the quality of life for all people in the Community.
