COMINSUD builds resilience in communities in the North West Region

In the North West Region of Cameroon, the seeds of change are being sown. Through collective effort and unwavering determination, communities are rising from the shadows of conflict, ready to embrace a future filled with hope and opportunity. Accompanying them is Community Initiative for Sustainable Development (COMINSUD) through its Social Aid and Support Project (SASU) Phase II Project funded by Bread for the World (BROT) Germany. This initiative aims to build community resilience and self-assertiveness by empowering locals to identify and address protection issues.

Through sensitization campaigns and economic empowerment, about 70 community members have been trained as focal persons in their communities who work with COMINSUD to attain this goal. These groups educate their peers on Gender-Based VIolence (GBV), and child protection while also providing psychosocial support to individuals grappling with trauma. This grassroots approach fosters an environment where community members can openly discuss their challenges and work collaboratively towards solutions.

As the initiative unfolds across various communities including Ndop, Belo, Njinikom, Bamenda II and III, Widikum, and Batibo, the impact is palpable. Survivors of GBV are not only receiving essential support but are also learning positive coping strategies that enable them to reclaim their lives. By facilitating referrals to additional services and nurturing a network of support, COMINSUD ensures that no one is left behind. The transformation is evident as individuals gain confidence, advocate for their rights, and contribute to their community’s stability. Through these collective efforts, the seeds of resilience and hope is being sown, setting the stage for a brighter future in North West Region.
