The Community Initiative for Sustainable Development (COMINSUD), through its CPS Peace Education Project, has organised a series of working sessions with teachers and students from selected schools in Mezam Division. The initiative aims to foster a school environment free of violence by strengthening collaboration among educators, learners, school administrators, counsellors, and parents.

The sessions focused on engaging committed teachers willing to go the extra mile in supporting Peace Clubs and students in need. As part of this approach, school Discipline Departments were encouraged to establish lists of students exhibiting deviant behaviour, along with their parents’ contact details, to enable coordinated and restorative interventions. In addition, school counselling and chaplaincy units were tasked with providing psychosocial support to targeted students, including those at risk of violence who require counselling and guidance.

Participants reviewed the roles and responsibilities of key actors in promoting peace education within the school setting ( teachers, students, administrators, counselling units, and parents). Practical tools to measure behavioural change and track progress were also developed during the sessions.
The discussions were highly interactive, with teachers sharing lived experiences and best practices adopted in their schools to prevent violence and promote positive behaviour. Participants described the sessions as timely and impactful, reinforcing the value of collective action in nurturing peaceful school communities.
Additional working sessions are planned for early 2026, as the organisation continues to scale peace education efforts across school settings in the region.
