The field mission to Batibo in the North West Region of Cameroon aimed at organizing Open space discussions with community stakeholders, women and youth leaders. During talks that ensued, they were encourage to be zealous and enthusiastic about achieving grassroots peace building and social cohesion.
The mission was equally an avenue to educate the women while building their zeal to take up leadership positions. Community engagement for self and local development was yet another important aspect of discussion during the training workshop in the community.
Field staff undertaking the visit explained that the event served as a forum for participants to share their leadership experiences in social, religious and cultural settings, stating how they succeed in leadership roles, through collaborative action with their community. A typical example was that of the traditional ruler of “Krukum”, who shared how he consults his entourage; not living out the opinion of women, when faced with a difficult situation.
At the close of the event, participants were encouraged to practice community peace values like Positivity, inclusiveness, equality, tolerance and non-violence to enhance social cohesion and achieve a more peaceful society.
They attested that they gained increased knowledge on the need to collaborate with duty bearers (quarter heads, chiefs and local administration) to promote peace and development.
This field visits despite the current instability is to encourage field in their work and ensure that communities strive for a more peaceful society. There have been similar visits to Widikum and Mbengwi all in Momo Division.
It should be recalled that these activities fall within the Social Aid and Support for Women and Youths (SASU) Project sponsored by Bread for the World Germany.
