Peace education in youth settings in Cameroon’s North West Region is crucial to combat the cycle of violence, radicalization, and instability caused by the Anglophone crisis. It aims to shift youth from victims to peace champions, promoting non-violence, social cohesion, and active participation in conflict resolution. Efforts aimed at stopping the involvement of young people in violence and redefining the role of youth as leaders and peacebuilders rather than just victims or troublemakers, fostering a culture of tolerance, mutual respect, and non-violent communication is very crucial.
Thus, Supporting Action Plan for Youth, Peace and Security, based on UN Security Council Resolution 2250, by creating youth-led initiatives for peacebuilding and social cohesion is fundamental. Developing skills and providing tools in mediation and conflict management to encourage peace building in both formal and informal environments is necessaryfor young people to address drivers of conflict like unemployment, poverty and other vices they face in the region.
For this reason, COMINSUD has planned a training of 50 Youth Volunteers to promote transformative peace and social cohesion actions within Youth Settings in various localities in North West Region.
